Akmal graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management Engineering. He worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation for 21 years, where he worked on various highway, roadway design and construction projects. He was mainly involved in drainage systems design, water quality treatment systems design, fish passage structure design, with some roadway facilities design, such as wheelchair ramps per ADA standards. Recently, while working for private consulting engineering firms, Akmal was involved in citywide planning and implementation of ADA standards in all public facilities, such as roadways, signal crossings, parks, etc. Currently, he is working on Traffic Control Plans for the survey and installation work of light poles throughout the city of Bellevue.
